Chondrosarcoma CS Foundation, Inc. Initiates Worldwide Campaign to Proclaim February 6, 2021 As Chondrosarcoma Awareness Day

The Bowie, MD-based Chondrosarcoma CS Foundation, Inc. is launching an international public campaign to raise awareness and support for Chondrosarcoma research and clinical trials. They are proclaiming February 6, 2021, as Chondrosarcoma Awareness Day, and are encouraging supporters to join them in raising awareness about this rare cancer.

Chondrosarcoma is a rare bone and soft tissue cancer that impacts around 4500 people around the world every year. Because Chondrosarcoma is so rare, the public is unaware of its existence. It does not get the attention of other typical cancers like lung breast and skin cancer, but its consequences can be just as serious and deadly. Three out of four people with Chondrosarcoma are misdiagnosed creating critical delays and complications in providing treatment. At present, treatment for Chondrosarcoma is the surgical removal of the tumors which can result in patients losing their limbs (arms and legs). The origin of Chondrosarcoma is unknown and at present, there is no known cure. The mission of the Chondrosarcoma CS Foundation, Inc. is to increase public awareness and support those patients and families who are affected by this cancer.

Those interested in supporting the Foundation’s international efforts may do so in a few ways. To get the word out and educate others about Chondrosarcoma, they can sign on and encourage others to join the campaign by signing the Chondrosarcoma CS Foundation online petition in support of Chondrosarcoma research and clinical trials. The petition can be found at www.csfshayna.org/support-cs-research. To sign and pledge support, they need only to provide their name and email address. The petition is being used as front line tool for public awareness and building a coalition for advocacy. With the new Biden Administration, we know that they have strong interest in beating cancer. Chondrosarcoma Warriors need a seat at that table.

As part of the awareness campaign, people are encouraged to wear yellow ribbons on February 6 and post pictures of themselves and pictures of family and friends (wearing yellow ribbons) on social media with the hashtag #cswecare. By participating in the campaign, people can help spread information about Chondrosarcoma and also encourage others to contribute to Chondrosarcoma research support.

The Chondrosarcoma CS Foundation was inspired by Shayna Elise Kramer, who suffered from this rare condition. She did not complain about her plight, instead choosing to think about ways through which she could help educate the public about Chondrosarcoma and how she can help other people who were suffering from the same disease. The Chondrosarcoma CS Foundation seeks to honor the legacy of Shayna Elise Kramer and help improve the lives of those who are affected by this cancer. They seek to achieve this by educating the world about Chondrosarcoma, supporting and advocating for people who suffer from the disease, and improving treatment and care for Chondrosarcoma patients. CS Foundation also seeks to form a strong coalition to support Chondrosarcoma research and clinical trials. These are the same goals that they seek to achieve by declaring February 6 as Chondrosarcoma Awareness Day.

Jeffrey Kramer, Chondrosarcoma CS Foundation President, states that: “Chondrosarcoma Awareness Day is dedicated to honoring the legacy of my daughter Shayna Elise Kramer, who passed away from this rare cancer in November 2019. This February 6 would have been Shayna’s 30th birthday. It was her wish to educate the public about Chondrosarcoma and support patients and their families suffering from this rare cancer. Please join us and encourage your family, friends, and colleagues to get involved. Help us build a strong coalition to support research and clinical trials for Chondrosarcoma.”
